DESCRIPTION: John will present a two part clinic using extruded Styrofoam and hot wire Styrofoam cutting tools. In the first part, John will show how to add texture and visual interest to a flat layout's topography and terrain by adding small hills, cutouts and depressions to a layout. In the second part, he will show various techniques to carve or construct tunnels in a Styrofoam mountain. This clinic is appropriate for both beginners and experienced model railroaders. |
About the Clinician... John and Pat, his wife, had a circuitous start in our hobby. Originally, as part of the Department 56 Christmas Village and toy train world, they sought to improve their displays with extruded foam. They discovered the Hot Wire Foam Factory Styrofoam cutting products in the mid 1990's and by 2003 they became the East Coast representatives for the company. Their journey has taken them to Toy Train shows, Military Model and Wargaming Shows and Fine Scale Train Shows. Terrain is the common factor in all of these shows and Pat and John are the experts in creating realistic contours in extruded foam.
