DESCRIPTION: This clinic is about presenter Larry DeYoung’s experiences as chief operating officer of the real Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad system in New York State and what he learned about his modeling assumptions and techniques from that experience.

About the Clinician...

Larry DeYoung has more than 40 years of management experience in the rail freight business. He began his railroad career in the Marketing Department at Consolidated Rail Corporation. Later he served Conrail’s Government Affairs Department, Regional Market Development and Short Line Marketing. With the eventual Conrail sale, he consulted with Norfolk Southern and in 2001 began consulting for the then-new Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad, of which he became a part-owner, board member, secretary, and vice president in 2001. He has served on the boards of the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville (LA&L) Railroad Company and B&H Rail Corp. which he served as Executive VP and COO. He is now secretary of the LA&L and WNYP.

He is a life member of NMRA and was the head of publications for the organization. He is a member of a number of rail historical societies, has written numerous articles, and eight books on rail and model railroad topics. After fifty years of HO modeling, Larry now models in O scale.
