CLINIC: History and Modeling of the PRR Stifftown Branch

DESCRIPTION: Certainly one of the Pennsylvania Railroads shortest branches was the Stifftown Branch located in the heart of North Philadelphia. This clinic will describe the history of this little known branch and then how this information was used to construct a prototype representation of the branch.

CLINIC: Tools and Techniques for Prototype Modeling of the Urban Landscape

DESCRIPTION: Effective prototype modeling of urban areas requires the scratchbuilding of many signature buildings. The talk will focus on using resin casting and digital cutters to help in the scratchbuilding process.

About the Clinician...

Ron is combining his long time interests in the PRR and Philadelphia's industrial history in order to create a prototype switching layout set in North Philadelphia circa 1958. To better match the prototype, all the buildings are being scratchbuilt based on historical research. In order to accomplish this goal Ron is exploring various techniques to expedite the scratchbuilding process. He has published some of this work in Railroad Model Craftsman and also the online magazine, The Keystone Modeler.
